My name is Blake Roberts...I've been associated with the CJFL at the team or league level since in 1991, primarily with the Okanagan Sun. While my opinions were for many years "team centric" in that I viewed things through the lenses of the Sun, in about 2013 I began to pay special attention to the differences, the strengths and challenges that each conference and team in the CJFL faced.
Over the years I've come to the conclusion that the present make-up (mainly 22 year old age limit) simply does not allow the league to function as a competitive and financially stable league. Whether it be an age change, or other drastic model adjustment, it's my opinion that the CJFL is destined to struggle at best as a national league.
At the 2018 CJFL AGM in Saskatoon I made a brief presentation to the CJFL executive about the concept of an age change. While the presentation was not positively received, I believe that is partly due to a lack of vision on the part of the leaders of the CJFL and that the teams themselves are understandably so busy with running their programs, the concept of drastic change is not one they are ready to consider. Presentation can be viewed here
"Dieter" was a name I used many years ago that I used for a CJFL discussion board that I created. It was dusted off for the purposes of sending out the message that the CJFL must do something DRASTIC to its model, be it U20 or something else to grow.
